Prometheus

It is a new semester at RCC for me. This time around I'm taking Sculpture II, Drawing II, and Figure Drawing. I plan on focusing on the figure this semester if my class list doesnt tell you anything. Anyways, in Sculpture, I am experimenting with different ways to show the human (or human-like) figure in different mediums. I started with something familiar, clay, and have made small 8" - 10" tall figures. This one is my first finished man. I call him Prometheus. I think you can see the resembelance.

An Artist Statement in Brief.. Kind of

Art is the reason Man was given eyes.

From the most mundane pattern added to the wall of a run-down, forgotten building in Urbantown, USA to the intricate, detailed mosaics covering the walls of ancient homes in the Middle East, to the shocking, thought provoking sculptures standing in museums around the world, art is everywhere. It permeates us and surrounds us and is involved in nearly every facet of our daily lives.

I see everyday in a new light, as a new source of inspiration. Every mark I create, every ridge I mold, and every cut I make is a result of everything that has happened to me up to that point. I feel that creating is a constantly changing, constantly evolving, and constantly learning process. I will never stop learning.

Currently, I am working on the human figure. Most of my work are studies with no underlying theme or idea to convey other than my understanding of proportions and light on the human figure. Eventually, I hope to translate this understanding of the shape and proportions of the human figure into sculptures.
