Quit, But Don't Stop

This is the only painting I've finished so far. It is a self-portrait I did in Art II in high school. The design happened by chance. The morning we were supposed to start painting in class, i went to the art supply store to buy canvas stretchers and they only had 2 of the longest and 2 of the shortest stretchers left. The rest just fell into place and now I present for your viewing pleasure, my self-portrait, "Quit, but don't stop".

An Artist Statement in Brief.. Kind of

Art is the reason Man was given eyes.

From the most mundane pattern added to the wall of a run-down, forgotten building in Urbantown, USA to the intricate, detailed mosaics covering the walls of ancient homes in the Middle East, to the shocking, thought provoking sculptures standing in museums around the world, art is everywhere. It permeates us and surrounds us and is involved in nearly every facet of our daily lives.

I see everyday in a new light, as a new source of inspiration. Every mark I create, every ridge I mold, and every cut I make is a result of everything that has happened to me up to that point. I feel that creating is a constantly changing, constantly evolving, and constantly learning process. I will never stop learning.

Currently, I am working on the human figure. Most of my work are studies with no underlying theme or idea to convey other than my understanding of proportions and light on the human figure. Eventually, I hope to translate this understanding of the shape and proportions of the human figure into sculptures.
